Mobilized for the restoration of the Cathedral, the Fondation Notre Dame also works all year round to support projects in favour of those who suffer: homeless people, prostitutes, isolated people, children and families in difficulty, refugees and migrants… Fell free to support the cause you want.
The cathedral is not insured, as are many of the historic buildings and monuments owned by the State.
Moreover, even if liabilities are released in relation to the companies working on the site at the time of the fire, it is unlikely that the compensation will cover the amount of the restoration.
After the fire of April 15, the work to secure the cathedral, an essential prerequisite for the restoration work is actively continuing, until autumn 2020.
As of June 1, 2020, the Fondation Notre Dame has collected €55 million in donations from 57,000 individuals as well as 900 French and foreign companies and public authorities for its Fonds Cathédrale de Paris.
The total of donations received and pledges made to the Foundation amounted to €290 million as of 1 June, 2020.
Since we do not yet know the cost of restoring the cathedral, the fundraising continues!
The Fondation Notre Dame has been designated by the Ministry of Culture as one of the four official collectors within the framework of the national subscription to restore the Cathedral. In addition, the Foundation has been recognized as a public utility since 1992, date of its creation. Our accounts were audited by the Court of Auditors in 2016, and are published annually.
We are currently still in the phase for securing the building until autumn 2020 at last. Until this phase is completed, the expertise concerning restoration cannot be carried out. It will therefore take some time before the amount needed for restoration can be estimated.
All the money raised from the national subscription for the restoration of the building and the choir organ will be used for this purpose. If you wish to contribute to saving Notre‑Dame through Fondation Notre Dame, you now have three options:
The consolidation of the building is the priority and essential objective. The Fondation Notre Dame has already given €31 million to the Ministry of Culture for the security of the construction site. A portion of the money collected to date is used for this purpose.
